Rhinoplasty

Understanding Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at altering the shape of the nose, addressing both aesthetic concerns and improving breathing functionality. It involves modifying bone, cartilage, and skin, with individualized plans developed by your surgeon based on your facial features and desired outcomes.

Am I A Good Candidate?

Individuals seeking to change the appearance of their nose solely for personal satisfaction rather than external pressures are considered ideal candidates for rhinoplasty. This is because the patient is the one who undergoes the preparation, surgery, recovery, and ultimately lives with the results.

An ideal candidate, whether considering surgical or non-surgical rhinoplasty, should be in good overall health and possess clear objectives and realistic expectations. It's essential to recognize that while enhanced appearance may bolster self-esteem, it won't necessarily guarantee career advancement or romantic success.

Given the uniqueness of each patient's bone structure, nasal skin thickness, and musculature, there are inherent limitations in what can be achieved with the existing nose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Rhinoplasty is a personal decision and should never be taken lightly. Our surgeons will consult with you during the initial consultation and discuss your reasons for nose surgery to determine if it’s the right option for you. They will always take the time necessary to answer every question you have thoroughly without making you feel rushed in any way whatsoever. Our surgeons use computer imaging so you can see visually what your end result will look like and will develop your treatment plan based on your personal goals.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty addresses aesthetic concerns, while functional rhinoplasty focuses on improving the main function of the nose – breathing. If both solutions are required, the procedures can be performed simultaneously. Some patients with functional issues may opt to include minor cosmetic adjustments during their functional rhinoplasty. Our surgeons strive to enhance both the aesthetics and functionality of your nose.

Are there any side effects of rhinoplasty surgery?

Rhinoplasty is generally considered a low-risk procedure compared to other forms of cosmetic surgery. However, like any surgical procedure, there are potential side effects and risks involved. Our surgeons and care team will thoroughly discuss these with you to ensure you are well-informed before proceeding with surgery. The most common temporary side effects of rhinoplasty surgery include bruising, pain, swelling, soreness, and tenderness.

The duration of a rhinoplasty surgery depends on the extent of changes being made to the nose. Minimal changes typically require 1 to 1.5 hours, while more extensive alterations may extend the surgery to 2 to 4 hours.

Yes, rhinoplasty can be combined with other cosmetic procedures. Chin augmentation is particularly popular to combine with rhinoplasty. When determining if combining procedures is suitable for you, our surgeons will consider factors such as the duration of anesthesia, impact on your recovery, and procedural methods, prioritizing your safety.

The likelihood of bruising varies depending on the specifics of your surgery. Patients who bruise easily, have thin or fair skin, or require repositioning of the nasal bones may be more prone to bruising. Typically, bruising resolves within 10-12 days after surgery.

The timing for wearing glasses post-rhinoplasty varies. Patients are typically advised to wait two months if the glasses frames are heavy. For those with lightweight glasses, such as titanium frames, wearing them may be possible after one month.
