What is Labioplasty?
Labioplasty, also known as vaginal labial reduction surgery, is the surgical procedure for reducing the size of structural or excessively hanging inner labia. Normally, when standing with legs closed, the inner labia are concealed within the outer labia and not visible externally.
In some women, the inner labia may be larger than usual, asymmetric, or sagging, leading to both cosmetic and physical discomforts. Sagging inner labia can cause irritation and friction against adjacent skin during activities like walking or exercising, resulting in redness and, in advanced cases, conditions like cellulitis, subcutaneous abscess, or wounds.
Sagging inner labia can also make genital hygiene difficult after using the toilet, leading to moisture retention in the area. Labioplasty surgery corrects these undesired appearances of the inner labia, allowing individuals to return to their normal lives.
Reasons for Labioplasty:
Enlarged inner labia, rich in sweat glands, can facilitate microbial growth due to moisture, leading to infections, odor, and discomfort, affecting sexual intimacy negatively.
Sagging and enlargement of the inner labia can cause friction during movement, resulting in irritation and difficulty during sexual intercourse, diminishing pleasure.
Dissatisfaction with the appearance of the genitalia can impact a woman's self-esteem and sexual enjoyment.
Post-Labioplasty Care:
- Use medications prescribed by the doctor (such as antibiotics, pain relievers).
- Clean the genital area with lukewarm water from front to back.
- Keep the genital area dry.
- Wait for three days after labioplasty to take a bath; prefer taking a shower instead of soaking in a tub.
- Avoid swimming or using a pool for one month after labioplasty.
- Refrain from activities that may stretch or injure the treated area, including biking and motorcycle riding, for one month.
- Avoid sexual intercourse for at least one month after labioplasty.
Causes of Inner Labia Sagging and Enlargement:
- It can be entirely genetic but may also occur due to accidents, trauma, or tears during childbirth. It is more common in slender individuals, as the outer labia are less plump, making the inner labia more prominent.
- Significant weight loss can lead to sagging in various body parts, including the genital area, due to reduced skin elasticity.
- Women who have had multiple vaginal births may experience muscle weakness in the genital area, contributing to labial sagging. Trauma or incisions during childbirth can alter the structure of the labia minora.

Frequently Asked Questions
Genital cosmetic surgery procedures vary in duration depending on the specific operation and the individual patient's condition. Labiaplasty surgeries typically last between 45 to 60 minutes, and if clitoral correction is included, this duration may extend to 60 to 75 minutes. Vaginal tightening and enlargement surgeries usually take around 30 to 40 minutes, and if the removal of episiotomy scars is included, the duration may average 50 to 60 minutes. Operations related to the hymen typically take 15 to 20 minutes. G-spot enhancement, O-Shot, and Genital PRP procedures typically take just a few minutes. Laser genital aesthetic procedures generally last between 20 to 30 minutes.
Labioplasty procedures are performed under highly hygienic and sterile conditions, typically using either local anesthesia (providing regional numbness) or mild sedation anesthesia. During the procedure, patients are often in a state of "light sleepiness," and they do not feel any pain.
You won't experience pain immediately after the surgery due to the painkillers administered just before the operation. However, you may experience mild pain the day after the surgery, which can be alleviated by taking the prescribed painkillers and antibiotics. Bleeding is minimal and may continue in a slight trickle for a few days. Applying ice compression after the procedure will significantly reduce pain, swelling, and bleeding.
